This self-guided walking tour is a combination of walking and cultural sightseeing, a tour includes Dubrovnik, a UNESCO World Heritage site, the island of Lopud, the island of Korcula and beautiful bays of Lumbarda, the island of Mljet a national park with its saltwater lakes and the ruins of the Roman palace. The island of Korcula is the birthplace of Marco Polo, Mljet is one of the greenest Mediterranean islands, Lopud is an island with a lot of history located in the vicinity of Dubrovnik, and Dubrovnik is a city that needs no introduction. During the tour, you will stay in various B&Bs and private apartments, and get maps and route directions for an enjoyable hike at your own pace. Epic Croatia will provide you with everything you need to enjoy this relaxed and flexible walking and cultural tour in an exceptionally beautiful corner of the Adriatic Sea and southern Europe.

This walking tour is not demanding and it is appropriate for people with an average level of fitness. The Adriatic islands hopping tour offers daily departures in the period from April 1 to October 31st. The duration of the trip is 8 days (7 nights) and you can choose the day of your departure from the dates between April 1 and October 31.

 

Itinerary

1st day: arrival

After meeting with our driver at the Dubrovnik Airport, we will take you around the Peljesac peninsula to the port of Orebic, where you will take a ferry to Korčula. After a short sail (just 10–15 minutes) you arrive to Korcula island and the seaside village of Lumbarda. Lumbarda is your base for the next 2 days.

On the first day, if you will have enough time, you can take a short warm-up walk, following the path above the village, visit some of the sandy beaches and vineyards or enjoy the spectacular view of the open sea and the island of Lastovo, or to the Peljesac peninsula, without interruptions of cars and traffic.

 2nd day: Lumbarda village, Korcula, walking distance: up to 15km

After breakfast, you will start the walking tour from the village of Lumbarda. For your first day, we suggest you take the route that goes from the village to the town of Korcula. On this route, you will get to experience the interesting scenery of sandy beaches, pine woods, and olive groves. Upon your arrival in Korcula, you will get a chance to explore the town at your own leisure (the narrow streets of the Old Town, the Korcula Cathedral, and the museum, the birthplace (house) of Marco Polo).

3rd day: Travel to Mljet island, hiking in the national park.

Hiking distance is about 10 km

Today you visit delightful island of Mljet, famous by it is natural protected area where are two salt lakes and many historical monuments date from the ancient times.

After breakfast you have a transfer to port of Korcula where you take the ferry to Mljet, journey time is about 45 min. Your hiking trip starts in village Polace or Pomena (famous by ruined Roman Palace) and your route will take you around the salt lakes, through villages, vineyards and pine forest in the national park of Mljet.

 4th day: Mljet hiking through the national park

The hiking distance is about 12 -15 km

The second day on Mljet you will have a chance to explore much more of this green island and walk to the Mt Montokuc just above the national park lakes. If there is a season of nice weather you can enjoy swimming in salt lakes (the sea temperature is always a couple of degrees higher than in the open sea), during the day you can visit St. Mary island where the Benedictine founded a monastery in 12 century. This island you can reach by regular water taxi.

 5th day: Mljet - Dubrovnik, time to explore Dubrovnik on your own, or sightseeing tour with our guide

This is a departure day from Mljet, to Dubrovnik where you spend the next 2 days. You take the ferry from Mljet island to Dubrovnik and arrive to Dubrovnik port around noon. During the afternoon in Dubrovnik, you have free time or an optional city tour with our guide, or if you like to do more hiking there is a nice walk up to hill Srdj above Dubrovnik.

6th day: Dubrovnik  – Lopud island - Dubrovnik

Walking distance around 9 km

This morning you take the ferry from Dubrovnik port to Lopud island, a sail takes about 50 min, and for the return (in the afternoon hours) you have several departures from the Lopud port to Dubrovnik.

Lopud island has lush Mediterranean vegetation, a mild climate with plenty of sunny days, old stone houses, churches, and a number of noble palaces. Lopud is the perfect place for getaway from Dubrovnik for a day hike, there are several hiking trails, the nicest one makes loop around the island in distance of 9 km where you can discover old forts, churches, a botanical garden, magnificent views over the cliffs…  Lopud is also famous for having one of the best sandy beaches in Dubrovnik.

7th day: Dubrovnik to Cavtat

Morning shuttle to the coastal town of Cavtat, the rest of the day is on your own or hiking tour to the hills above Cavtat (7km), or explore Cavtat coastal countryside to town Cilipi and back, or on foot explore bays and the historical parts of the town and enjoy beaches and sunsets.

8th day: departure

After breakfast and in accordance your flight time, we will organize the transport service to the Dubrovnik Airport, the Dubrovnik port or the bus terminal.
