Description

This tour starts at the Dubrovnik countryside, in Konavle. After 2 days of cycling through the picturesque Konavle, we will take our journey to the Pelješac peninsula and the island of Korčula. The tour continues with a visit to the island of Mljet, Dubrovnik and the island of Šipan, one of the Elaphiti islands. The tour lasts 7 days (7 nights / 8 days) and includes 4 destinations (2 days in Konavle, 2 days on Korčula and Pelješac, 1 day on Mljet and 2 days in Dubrovnik and on Šipan). In these 7 days, you will explore the amazing islands, medieval towns, old villages and lovely bays. Croatia is a country of more than 1,000 islands, with rich history, Mediterranean vegetation and mild climate and one of the best ways to explore it is undoubtedly by bike.

Itinerary

1st day: arrival to Dubrovnik Airport

Meet and greet at the Dubrovnik Airport and a short ride (shuttle service transport) to Konavle, tuning and fitting the bikes, a brief meeting with our representative and, depending on the time, a warm-up ride through the Konavle valley.

Overnight stay in Konavle.

2nd day: cycling through the countryside of the Konavle valley

Route: Gruda – Zvekovica – Ljuta - Gruda (circular route, 40–55km)

Total distance approx. up to 40–55km, type of ground: asphalt

Or a longer route: Gruda – Čilipi – Prevlaka – Gruda (circular route, up to 65km)

You will spend the day cycling through the farming area of Dubrovnik. The cycling route goes through the valley and along the Ljuta River and passes through the village of Zvekovica (with a possible visit to the town of Cavtat) and the villages in Gornja Banda.

Overnight stay in the Konavle countryside.

3rd day: Konavle – Pelješac peninsula – Korčula island

Cycling distance: 48km (elevation gain: 740m)

On the 3rd day we will use the shuttle service transport from Konavle to the Pelješac peninsula and the island of Korčula. Travellers who like longer bike rides can take the Pelješac peninsula cycling route (up to 50km). This route is very scenic, but parts of it are very challenging. If you decide against cycling around the peninsula, it is possible to take a shuttle service to Korčula and go on a shorter bike ride on the island.

Overnight stay in Lumbarda, Korčula.

4th day: cycling on Korčula

Route: from Lumbarda to the town of Korčula – from the town of Korčula to the bay of Račišće

The total length of the route is approximately 40km, the maximum elevation gain is 80m, type of ground: asphalt.

For your 2nd day on Korčula, we suggest a circular ride from the village of Lumbarda to the town of Korčula, where you can visit the Korčula Cathedral, the house of Marco Polo and other amazing sights located in the Old Town. When you finish sightseeing, you will cycle along the coastal road to the picturesque bay of Račišće. After the lunch break, you will take the same road back to Lumbarda.

5th day: visit to Mljet island, cycling in the area of the national park

Mljet cycling route 1 (Polače village – saltwater lakes – Vrata od Solina – Polače)

Cycling distance: approx. 30km, maximum elevation gain: 90m, type of ground: asphalt (paved roads)

You will visit the delightful island of Mljet, famous for its untouched nature and protected area (national park), where there are two saltwater lakes and many historical monuments dating back to ancient times.

After breakfast we will head to the port of Korčula where you will take the ferry to Mljet (the journey takes around 30 minutes). Your cycling tour will start in the Pomena village or in Polače (two small villages just outside the national park territory) and the route will take you around the saltwater lakes, through the villages of Babine Kuće and Soline and around the lakes back to the village of Polače or Pomena.

Overnight stay on Mljet, in Polače or Pomena.

6th day: visit to Dubrovnik, sightseeing walking tour of the Old Town

We will leave Mljet and travel to Dubrovnik by taking a ferry (or combine this type of transport with a shuttle service, depending of the available ferries and the season)

Upon our arrival in Dubrovnik, you will be taken to your accommodation. You can spend your afternoon leisurely or go on a sightseeing walking tour of the historical centre with a local guide.

Overnight stay in Dubrovnik.

7th day: Šipan island cycling tour

Route: from Suđurađ Pakljena port to Luka port and back to Suđurađ

Cycling distance: approx. 20km, maximum elevation gain: 230m, type of ground: paved roads.

After breakfast you will leave Dubrovnik for a day trip to the Elaphiti island of Šipan. From your accommodation in Dubrovnik you will cycle to Gruž port where bikes will be put on board during the trip to the island of Šipan. The bike ride on the island will be very easy and relaxed. A short cycling distance can be combined with sightseeing, swimming and relaxing on this quiet island.

The island of Šipan was the residential place of Dubrovnik's patricians, but today it is a calm, well-preserved and typical Dalmatian island. Following the road from Suđurađ, past the vineyards and the olive groves, you will reach Luka, a small harbour located on the west side of the island. Here you will find many interesting sights to explore: old churches, summer residential palaces, beautiful pine forests and hidden bays. This is an ideal day for easy cycling, swimming and relaxing far from the city crowds.

In the afternoon you will take a ferry back to Dubrovnik (there are several departure times you can choose from).

Overnight stay in Dubrovnik.

8th day: end of the tour

Your cycling tour in Dubrovnik will end after breakfast and we will take you back to Dubrovnik Airport in accordance with your flight times, or offer to take you to some other address in Dubrovnik if you decide to extend your holiday.
